Conservation of birds and sloths

overview

Our institution collaborates with partners nationwide in a population genetics study focused on comprehending the genetic diversity of the three-toed sloth across the Caribbean, South Pacific, and Central Valley regions of Costa Rica. This study aims to shed light on the intricate genetic variations within these sloth populations, contributing valuable insights into their conservation and management. In addition to our genetic research, we actively engage in bird censuses throughout the year, meticulously documenting the biodiversity of avian species in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. By participating in these census activities, we enhance our understanding and our students understanding, of bird populations, their distribution, and ecological roles, ultimately supporting conservation efforts and promoting sustainable practices in the region. Through these endeavors, we are committed to safeguarding the rich biological heritage of Costa Rica and fostering a harmonious coexistence between wildlife and communities.
