Culture immersion as a new way of learning

For many students, traveling represents an entire world of new possibilities and opportunities. Traveling for pleasure brings us happiness, getting to know new places, visiting historical sites, soaking up the beauty and art in the countries that we have chosen to visit. Not to mention gastronomy, those new dishes we try that awaken our palates. We meet new friends, go on adventures, and take plenty of photographs to remember it all. However, when we talk about studying abroad, a whole world of new opportunities opens up before our eyes.

When we choose to study outside our home country, we are accepting endless challenges. We face a complete cultural change.  We will go through great adaptations, such as having to learn a new language to communicate.  But also acquire smaller skills like taking a taxi, moving from one point to another, understanding the expressions of locals, knowing what motivates the community, and learning about the country’s history and culture.  We get a more in-depth understanding of what influences society and their behavior.

Traveling abroad allows us to expand our vision of society. It makes us more flexible and respectful since we learn to value the needs and ways of thinking about the people we meet.

All this combines to become part of an enriching cultural learning experience.

As time passes in the country where we choose to study, we will understand how much we have learned and how much we have gained in this exchange with other cultures and other perspectives.

One of the best forms of learning, apart from academics, is a cultural immersion in our day-to-day. A study abroad trip takes us out of our “comfort zone” into a real adventure every day.

Learning from other cultures will open new perspectives for us. Let’s get motivated and take the next step. A new world, full of challenges and adventures, awaits on the other side of the door.
